Buffalo, NY – It's primary day. In Buffalo and Erie County, there were a number of high-profile races. Click our link to the Erie County Board of Elections for the latest results.
Four candidates are seeking the Democratic party nod for city comptroller. For Barbra Kavanaugh, James Pitts and Al Coppola, it's a must-win contest. For the fourth candidate in the race, acting comptroller Andrew SanFilippo, his candidacy continues regardless of the outcome of today's primary. He's already on the November ballot on the Republican and several other minor party lines.
Former Mayor Jimmy Griffin will try once again to return to elective office, challenging incumbent South District Council member Mary Martino.
One of the more interesting suburban races is a Republican primary in the 10th district of the Erie County Legislature. Incumbent Charles Swanick, who switched to the GOP from the Democratic party this year, is being challenged by Kevin Hardwick, a Canisius College professor.
