Buffalo, NY – Buffalo Mayor Anthony Masiello unveiled a four-year fiscal plan Tuesday that would eliminate more than 420 jobs. The plan also requests a share of Erie County's extra one percent sales tax.
Masiello is submitting the plan to the control board overseeing Buffalo's finances.
It includes a restructuring of police and fire services, merges some functions with the county and privatizes other services.
The mayor calls his proposal "a blueprint for a stronger, more viable city."
An audit by state Comptroller Alan Hevesi determined the city's budget deficit could top $125 million dollars in three years. The control board will meet next week to discuss the mayor's plan and decide later in the month whether to accept it, reject it or seek modifications.
