Buffalo, NY – The Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority is in the midst of a study designed to enhance development around Metro Rail's Allen-Medical Campus and Summer-Best stations.
There's already significant development around what's now known as the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus. UB is building its Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics, while construction is underway on a new facility for the Hauptman Woodward Research Institute.
NFTA spokesman Doug Hartmeyer says the study will provide a blueprint for incorporating the transit stations into the campus.
"It will look at how we can transform those locations into a major gateway, specifically for the Allen-Medical Campus Station," Hartmayer said. "We'll look at ways of increasing transit usage as well as improving the transit and pedestrian links between the stations and the emerging neighborhood."
NFTA officials gathered at the newly re-named Allen-Medical Campus station Thursday. They say it makes sense to have names on rail stations that reflect the changes taking place in the city.
South Campus is now know as University Station, Delavan College as Delavan-Canisius College Station and Auditorium as Erie Canal-Harbor Station.
