Buffalo,NY – The Erie County Medical Center continues to be a drain on county dollars, according to Erie County Comptroller Nancy Naples.
An audited finanical report was released Tuesday by Naples. She said ECMC's dependency on the county is significant and continues to grow.
The report indicates that in 2002, the county advanced more than $43 million dollars to help the hospital's day-to-day operations, while E-C-M-C had close to $58 million dollars in outstanding patient accounts receivable.
Naples said she hopes newly enacted state legislation to turn ECMC into a public benefit corporation will alleviate the dependency.
