Ischua Residents Warned to Avoid Water

By Mark Wozniak

Buffalo, NY – Cleanup crews in Cattaraugus and Allegany Counties finally have the weather forecast on their side for the next few days, with calls for mostly sunny, 85 degree days, and clear nights in the 60s.

But the recent days of heavy rains and flooding have left a lot of damage in their wake.

Residents of Ischua, near Olean, are being warned to avoid using well water until further notice, due to several days of heavy rains and flooding.

Bottled water will be provided by the American Red Cross in Olean.

A state of emergency remains in effect in southeastern Cattaraugus County.

Governor George Pataki has requested a federal disaster relief declaration for Cattaraugus, Allegany and fifteen other counties that suffered damage from the storms.
