A noted violinist is coming to Buffalo.By Bill Raffel, WBFO
Buffalo, NY – The reigning virtuoso of the violin comes to Kleinhans on Saturday. Good morning. I'm Bill Raffel with Music Notes.
Itzhak Perlman is known not only for his talents but for the passion he brings to music. He battled polio at age four and more recently a torn rotator cuff, forcing him to reschedule his appearance with the Buffalo Philharmonic from February to Saturday.
See Itzhak Perlman as soloist in this Third Violin Concerto of Mozart Saturday (6/21) at 8 p.m. in Kleinhans. Joann Falletta will also conduct the Shostakovich Ninth Symphony, and a new work called Fanfare Sizzle by Libby Larsen, dedicated to Joann and BPO as a gift from the Women's Philharmonic of San Francisco, one of Joann's former orchestras.
Also this weekend, the Roycroft Chamber Music Festival continues Saturday (6/21) and Sunday (6/22) at 7 p.m. at Saint Matthias Episcopal Church in East Aurora.
Theatre organist Andy Kasparian performs Wednesday (6/18) at 7:30 p.m. on the console of the Riviera Theatre's Mighty Wurlitzer organ.
The Lancaster Town Band gives a free concert Tuesday (6/17) at 7:30 p.m. in Como Lake Park.
The West Seneca Town Band is in concert Monday (6/16) and the Erie County Wind Ensemble on Thursday (6/19). Both take place in the Lions Band Shell behind the West Seneca Town Hall at 1250 Union Road. In case of rain, the concert will be held in the West Seneca Middle School.
