Buffalo, NY – A Buffalo man accused of being one of the Internet's top senders of junk e-mail was successfully sued in federal court Thursday.
An Atlanta judge granted an injunction filed by internet service provider EarthLink against Howard Carmack, 36, of Parkridge Avenue in Buffalo. EarthLink was awarded $16.4 million in damages, a judgement Carmack is unlikely ever to pay.
The so-called Buffalo Spammer used stolen credit card numbers and false identities to sign up for more than 300 dial-up accounts so he could avoid detection as he sent out more than 800 million e-mails over the past year.
