Buffalo, NY – The Buffalo Common Council is considering a proposal to ask city residents to pay their property tax bills in full, rather than doing so in two installments.
Supporters of the plan say that if enough people can pay up front this year, either directly or through escrow accounts, the city could cut short term borrowing costs.
City officials say such a program would be strictly voluntary. They say there are no plans to phase-out the split payment option.
