Southern Tier Soldier Wounded in Grenade Attack

Wellsville, NY – A soldier from Western New York was among those wounded when one of their own allegedly tossed grenades into tents at an Army camp in Kuwait.

Captain Townley Hedrick, whose hometown is the village of Wellsville in Allegany County, suffered shrapnel wounds in his feet but has returned to duty.

Despite his wounds, Hedrick reportedly put his boots on and helped other injured soldiers.

His mother, Sharon Ash, related the account of his injuries to the Wellsville Daily Reporter. Ash said she talked to her son Monday night, and he told her he's all right.

Hedrick is a member of the First Brigade of the 101st Airborne. The ten-year Army veteran was sleeping in a tent at Camp Pennsylvania in Kuwait early Sunday when another soldier allegedly tossed grenades into three tents.

The attack killed two soldiers and wounded 14 others, including Hedrick.
