Buffalo, NY – Buffalo mayor Anthony Masiello and his colleagues from Rochester, Syracuse and Albany are proposing a increase in the state sales tax by one percent.
Masiello says a nine percent sales tax could generate as much as $38 million for Buffalo, and over $1 billion statewide.
The plan, which would distribute revenues among counties, the state, and its largest cities, was unveiled during closed door meetings in Albany with the mayors, Governor Pataki, and top state legislative leaders.
