Buffalo, NY – Manna from Heaven opened to big crowds at area movie theaters over the weekend. And it's been extended for another weekend at the local Regal Theatres.
Manna from Heaven by Five Sisters Productions was the top grossing film of the weekend at many of the theaters where it was shown. While it's already been renewed at local Regal theaters, the Burton sisters are negotiating with the other theatre chains for similar extensions.
The Burtons say theatre companies in New York City and Los Angeles are looking at how well the film does here in deciding whether to bring it to a national audience.
Family members appeared at area screenings. Gabrielle C. Burton says the response was positive.
"People were saying it's great to see Buffalo boosted in a movie," Burton said. "They recognized the places and all the local talent in it. It was just a thrill."
Manna from Heaven was filmed entirely in the Buffalo area by the five Burton sisters, who all grew up in Amherst.
Gabrielle Burton notes the film is rated PG and is appropriate for families.
