Tonawanda resident Cory Wright will be one of six local organists striking up the band this Wednesday (1/15) at the Riviera Theatre, as part of the monthly organ concert series. These folks normally play before shows as people are walking in. But this time, the lights will be down, and the spotlight will shine on their talents all the more.
Cory actually learned how to play the organ on this very instrument. One day, called the theatre in North Tonawanda and asked if he could come give it a try.
See Cory Wright perform on the Mighty Wurlitzer and accompany a silent movie this Wednesday (1/15) at 7:30?p.m. The theatre is located at 67 Webster Street in North Tonawanda. Other organists on the program include Justin Nimmo of Tonawanda, Greg Gurtner of Amherst, Mike Frazer from Perry, Frank Jager from Cheektowaga, and Dave Shire from Niagara Falls.
Also this week, the Friends of Vienna present a recital with Violinist Cornelius Dufallo and Pianist Phillis East, Sunday (1/19) at 3:30?p.m. in the Unity Church at 1243 Delaware Avenue, near Gates Circle.
Finally, Saint Paul's Cathedral has been getting low lately. Last week's Friday noon-time recital featured a bassoon player. This week it's a few steps down to the string bass with Edmond Gnekow from the Buffalo Philharmonic. That's free, Friday (1/17) at 12:30?p.m. at the corner of Pearl and Church downtown. And I always thought they were High Anglican at Saint Paul's.
