Are you interested in singing at the Metropolitan Opera?By Bill Raffel, WBFO
Buffalo, NY – Could the star of a future opera at the Met be on stage in Buffalo this weekend? Good morning. I'm Bill Raffel with Music Notes.
Singers from as far away as Pittsburgh and Cleveland will be auditioning for the Metropolitan Opera here in Buffalo. The Upstate New York competition takes place on Saturday (1/11), before the regional finals on Sunday (1/12), with the winners from Pittsburgh and Cleveland joining the top scorers from Buffalo.
Gayletha Nichols is in charge of the Metropolitan Opera's National Council Audition. And she says the goal is helping young singers, most of whom studied music in college.
So you can see the next generation of opera performers at Rockwell Hall on the Buffalo State College campus. The first round is all day Saturday (1/11), starting at 9:30 a.m. and running until 9 p.m. The admission is free. Then the district finals begin Sunday (1/12) at 1:00 p.m., with only a $5 charge.
Only one other performance this week. Buffalo Philharmonic Bassoonist Glenn Einschlag gives a free recital Friday (1/10) at 12:30 p.m. in Saint Paul's Cathedral downtown.
And that's Music Notes. I'm Bill Raffel. Have a great week!
