Buffalo, NY – Hospitals statewide received a report card from the newly formed Alliance For Quality Health Care Monday. The organization represents more than 3,600 businesses, consumer education groups and health plans. The group has published, for the first time, a uniform report card on hospitals statewide.
Hospitals were ranked using a one to three star system in four quality indicators. Areas evaluated included mortality rates for heart failure, stroke, and surgery. Hospital procedures and volume were also ranked.
For instance, the death rate from heart attacks last year ranged from 8.7 deaths per 100 patients at Buffalo General Hospital to 24.9 deaths per hundred at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia.
The Alliance's data are now available on line at myHealthFinder.com.
