Adelphia in Talks with AT&T Execs to Head Up Company

By Mark Scott

Coudersport, PA – Adelphia Communications is negotiating with two executives of AT&T's cable division to head up the bankrupt cable company.

William Schleyer, the chief executive officer of AT&T Broadband, would assume the same duties at Adelphia. Schleyer's second-in-command at AT&T, Ron Cooper, would become Adelphia's chief operating officer.

Both will leave AT&T Broadband once its acquisition by Comcast is completed.

A source familiar with the negotiations tells the Associated Press that Adelphia is continuing talks with the two. A decision is expected in about two weeks.

Neither Schleyer, Cooper or Adelphia will comment.

Founder and former chairman and chief executive officer, John Rigas, and his sons Timothy and Michael, were indicted by a federal grand jury in September on securities fraud, bank fraud and conspiracy charges.

The Rigases stepped down from their jobs in May. Retired Buffalo banker Erland Kailbourne has served as interim CEO since then.
