Family Confirms Derwish Killed in Missile Attack

Lackawanna, NY – The alleged ringleader of the suspected terror cell in Lackawanna was one of those killed by a American missile in Yemen last week.

The family of Kamal Derwish confirmed his death Sunday. Derwish was born in Lackawanna. He and his family moved to Saudi Arabia when he was young. As an adult, Derwish lives in Yemen, where he became a devout Muslim. He returned at times to live in Lackawanna.

Many in Lackawanna's Yemeni community are in mourning. Some are criticizing the attack, wondering if the CIA attack violated international or human rights laws.

One local Muslim leader said the US government set a dangerous precedent. Mohamed Albanna questions why the government did not try to capture the men rather than using deadly force.
