A look ahead to the BPO's Summer ScheduleBy Bill Raffel, WBFO
Buffalo, NY – The Buffalo Philharmonic has ended its concert season in Kleinhans. But a new season is about to begin at parks and other outdoor locations throughout the community. Good morning. I'm Bill Raffel with Music Notes.
The summer season runs between July 2nd and the 28th. Tickets will be on sale for several of the Philharmonic's performances, to be conducted by Ron Spigelman and Joann Falletta. But in addition, Paul Ferington will lead a series of free concerts taking place at many parks throughout the community. Paul is known for finding some obscure yet interesting pieces. And this year, he's outdone himself with this Symphony number Five and a Half. Five and a half?
Paul Ferington will be on the podium starting on Tuesday, July 2nd at 7:30 on Goat Island near Niagara Falls, then on Bidwell Parkway the following Tuesday. Other locations include Symphony Circle, the Botanical Gardens, One M and T Plaza, Lyndonville, and Centennial Park in Batavia. Visit WBFO.org for a link to the complete lists of dates and times. And you can also see the schedule for the Summer Symphony series as well as ticket information.
The Chautauqua Ballet begins its season on Thursday (6/27) with its annual Dance Salon, before The Chautauqua Symphony opens its season on Saturday (6/29) with Uriel Segal leading Beethoven's Third Symphony, the Eroica. And Ittai Shapira will be featured in Mendelssohn's E Minor Violin Concerto. Both performances begin at 8:15 in the Amphitheatre.
And the American Legion Band of the Tonawandas is in concert twice this weekend. Saturday (6/29) at 7?p.m. in Lockport's Palace Theatre and Sunday (6/30) at 7?p.m. at the Quaker Arts Pavillion in Orchard Park. That's behind the Middle School at the corner of Lincoln and West Quaker.
(If you missed it on WBFO Tue 6/25, you can listen online to Joyce Kryszak's conversation with JoAnn Falletta and Ron Spigelman of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra.)
