Buffalo, NY – The latest congressional reapportionment plan, this one from a federally-appointed court master, would combine the districts of two local incuments.
The plan would require Democrat John LaFalce and Republican Jack Quinn to run against each other in November's election. That puts the pressure on the State Legislature to agree on its own plan to prevent the court-developed one from taking effect.
"The process of drawing district lines is a long and drawn out process," Quinn said. "It is premature to comment specifically on the Special Master's plan. I trust the Governor and State Legislature will come up with an agreeable map for all parties."
"I am fully prepared to seek re-election," Quinn asserted.
"I suspect the court plan will be what it historically has been," said LaFalce, "and that's a catalyst for a state legislative plan."
LaFalce noted that ten years ago a court plan would have placed him in a district with former Congressman Bill Paxon. That plan didn't happen.
"We're a 'band of brothers,'" LaFalce said. "No brother likes going against another brother.
