Buffalo, NY – The Buffalo and Erie County Work Force Investment Board says it reached 14 out of 15 performance goals, just one year after the Work force Investment Act was issued.
Congress imposed the act in an effort to set up "one-stop" employment training programs. Mayor Anthony Masiello says more than 800 job seekers enrolled in the program found jobs paying, on average, $11.50 an hour.
"This is the first entrance back into the work force for those who have been unemployed, those who lost their jobs," Masiello said. "This benefits those who are upset about where they're going, how they're going to pay their mortgage and how they are going to feed their family."
Many of the area's top large employers use the one-stop centers to recruit workers including, HSBC, Adelphia, M&T and Tower Group.
