Anti-Abortion Activists Picket Outside Proposed Clinic

By Joyce Kryszak

Kenmore, NY – About a dozen members of the anti-abortion group Operation Save America picketed Wednesday afternoon in front of a proposed abortion clinic site at 3834 Delaware Avenue in Kenmore.

The building was recently purchased by New Jersey physician Stephen Brigham. He originally announced intentions to use the site, which is situated adjacent to a catholic girls' high school, for a clinic that would provide abortions. Faced with opposition from activists and town officials, Brigham now says he will likely use the clinic instead to provide family medical services.

But Robert Behn, director of Operation Save America Buffalo, says that's just a ploy to halt protests.

"That's a smokescreen that he puts out all over the country," Behn said. "He has 12 abortion clinics. I think there are three of them where he went into the area and swore up and down that he would not be doing abortions."

Local abortion rights advocates have also come out against the controversial doctor's plans because of his track record of providing botched abortions.
