High Winds Will Batter Region on Sunday

By Mark Scott

Buffalo, NY – The National Weather Service has posted a High Wind Warning for Sunday afternoon.

Another cold front is moving through the region Sunday, bringing with it sustained winds in the 30 to 40 mile per hour range. Wind gusts could reach 55 miles per hour, enough to bring down tree limbs.

Temperatures are starting the fall after an early morning high in the upper 40s and will drop to a low in the upper teens by Sunday night.

The cold temperatures and westerly winds blowing across the open waters of Lake Erie will generate more lake effect snow in ski country well south of Buffalo.

A Lake Effect Snow Watch is in effect for Cattaraugus and Chautauqua Counties Sunday night and Monday where six to ten inches of lake snow are expected Sunday night and an additional three to five inches on Monday.

The band of lake snow will gradually move north into Metro Buffalo on Monday. Two to three inches of accumulation are expected though the total could rise in persistent squalls.
