Buffalo, NY – The controversial decision by Kaleida Health last week to move Children's Hospital has resulted in a demand by pediatricians for Kaleida to spin off Children's into an independent facility.
Several leading Children's doctors are considering legal action, saying an independent facility is the only way to maintain the hospital's top quality care.
"We need to embrace the idea of a regional center that meets the needs of the community and not just the financial needs of Kaleida Health," Dr. Steven Lana, a Children's physician told the Buffalo News.
Kaleida officials say such a move would cost over $100 million, and that relocated pediatric services are key to helping Kaleida reverse its financial troubles.
Kaleida Chairman Gerald Lippes said the chances an independent Children's Hospital would succeed are slim.
