Shady Rest Country Club was established when a group of Black businessmen bought it in 1921. Golfers and tennis players were active. In the evening, its nightclub in the basement was a haven for entertainers such as Ella Fitzgerald, who gave shows there after performances in New York. The club, Villa Casanova, has to be restored.
