  • Reports filed at the Federal Election Commission show the GOP presidential hopefuls spent a lot of cash in January, what with contests in four states. Also spending a lot of money, as it turns out, were the richly financed superPACS that support the candidates.
  • The Real Housewives of New Jersey may be able to save a few dollars on their next procedure. New Jersey's legislature has voted to phase out its so-called "Botax" — a 6 percent tax on cosmetic medical procedures like Botox. The bill is currently on Gov. Chris Christie's desk for approval.

Nearly a dozen labels are emerging in the Arab and Israeli press, from "The 6th War" to "The Hezbollah War" to "The Latest Israeli Aggression." Some war watchers think the simple and neutral "The 2nd Lebanon War" will stick. But one Lebanese journalist points out that this name ignores his country's other conflicts.
  • In an interview published Monday, Ginni Thomas said that while she did attend the Jan. 6 rally to protest President Biden's election, she left before Donald Trump took the stage.
  • Gubernatorial elections in Venezuela delivered a majority of seats to the ruling socialists, rocking the opposition and reigniting protests. The opposition cited irregularities in their 17-6 seat loss. Shortages of food and medicine coupled with massive inflation have fueled widespread anger.
  • Ellison Nguyen, 6, wrote the book, and Hien Bui-Stafford, 13, illustrated it. They got a little help from Pulitzer Prize-winner Viet Nguyen (Ellison's dad) and cartoonist Thi Bui (Hien's mom).
  • Chef Amanda Cohen, owner of Dirt Candy in New York City, says the coronavirus relief package's $28.6 billion for independent and small-chain restaurants means many in the industry can stay afloat.
