Buffalo, NY – The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation announced that they have expanded the offerings of Google Earth to help users find trails and learn more about the state lands that surround them.
The Mapping Gateway offered by the DEC combines existing web mapping applications and map collections. The online site offers new features such as interactive data inventory and map viewer using things like interactive aerial map representations through services such as Google Earth.
The service now includes information about 2,446 miles of recreational trails that the DEC manages such as hiking and cross country trails, horse, mountain bike and snowmobile trails and trails that offer the "Motorized Access Program for People with Disabilities".
The service will allow users to access trail information and find contact information for the forest, wildlife management area or other state land management for the trails so that users can contact the local office for the latest trail updates.
Trail information and links to instructions for using and downloading Google Earth are available on the DEC website at Google Earth.
