300 Pounds of Concrete Fall from Statler Towers; Sale to Buy the Building Back on Track

Buffalo, NY – No one was hurt Wednesday night, but for the second time in six years, part of the Statler Towers' decorative facade broke loose from the building's frame. Roughly 300 pounds of concrete fell from the 87-year-old building's 18th floor.

Inspectors say some of the facade still appears to be unstable and as a precaution, they've closed Delaware Avenue -- both the sidewalk and the street -- between Mohawk and Niagara Square. In 2003, a similar incident happened to the building that forced the city to close a few blocks of Delaware for about a month.

The incident comes just as the Statler deal began moving ahead as planned. A hearing was held in U-S Bankruptcy court Wednesday. WBFO'S Eileen Buckley brings us the details.
