Mayor announces his 3rd Gun Buyback Program

By Eileen Buckley

Buffalo, NY – The City is holding another gun buyback program Saturday. There are seven drop-off sites at churches throughout Buffalo. That includes St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Riverside where the event kicked off Saturday morning. Other drop-off locations include Church of Good Shepherd, True Bethel Church. The program will continue until 5 p.m. Saturday.

Buffalo Police Commissioner McCarthy Gipson and Mayor Byron Brown are encouraging any resident to turn in guns they may have to police. In return, they will receive a prepaid credit card.

Commissioner Gipson tells WBFO News he expects this year's gun buyback to be as "successful" if not more successful than last year's. It is a "no questions asked" turn in program.

Last year residents handed over more than 700-guns during the program. The buyback program is being held as the City registered its 38 homicide this week. In 2008 Buffalo had 37 homicides for the entire year.
