Winds with gusts from 50 to 70 mph ripped through Western New York Tuesday night bringing down trees and power lines, with most of the damage coming along the Lake Erie Shore.

It knocked out power and downed some trees and tree limbs in parts of the region.  A few thousand lost power Tuesday night in parts of  East Aurora, Elma, Colden and Orchard Park. Scattered outages also were reported in parts of North Buffalo.

The system that generated those winds however has moved out of the area and Forecaster Bob Hamilton said, although a residual breeze remains, things will settle down nicely Wednesday.

"We expect winds to average 15 to 25 this morning even lighter during the afternoon, and with the exceptions of lake snows down of Chautauqua and Cattaraugus Counties, today should be pretty nice," said Hamilton.

Power crews meantime have restored service to most of the customers affected by the storm.  And any roads that closed last night have since re-opened.

A snow advisory is posted for Southern Erie, Wyoming, Chautauqua and Cattaraugus Counties until noon.
