Buffalo, NY – Details of the new city budget are emerging, even though the budget won't be officially released by the mayor's office until Tuesday.
A published report says the highlight will be a reduction in property tax rates, decreases of nearly five percent for homeowners, and over nine percent for businesses. But tax bills are expected to rise about fifteen percent, as the new rates will apply to new assessments that are generally higher.
Overall, the tax levy is expected to remain nearly the same.
Mayor Byron Brown is looking to increase revenues through lower borrowing costs, higher sales tax revenues, and employee departures.
Brown will also propose initiatives to spark business development, and he plans to improve neighborhood safety with the hiring of over forty new police officers.
