Reynolds Questions Domestic Eavesdropping

By Mark Scott

Buffalo, NY – While President Bush continues to defend a secret domestic eavesdropping program, one of his strongest supporters in the House admits he has some questions about it. Clarence Republican Thomas Reynolds said Monday that he expects Congress will demand more oversight.

"I have an understanding that there are certain circumstances where a president may want to have certain powers," Reynolds said. "But I think Congress generally wants to have a good understanding of what's happening there. So, I think you'll see some oversight of this."

And Reynolds says that could include congressional hearings.

Reynolds acknowledges a "libertarian streak" that causes him to question when certain rights are taken away to protect against another 9/11. He says his support of the Patriot Act was contingent on the "sun-setting" of many of its provisions.
