Buffalo, NY – Four K-Mart stores in Western New York will close as part of a company-wide reorganization announced Friday.
K-Mart says it will close 284 under-performing stores nationwide following its bankruptcy declaration earlier this year.
The K-Mart at 998 Broadway in the city of Buffalo, two on Transit Road in Amherst and Lockport and one in Dunkirk are included on the list.
A fifth local store that was expected to close, a K-Mart in Jamestown, was not included on the list.
A Bankruptcy Court judge will make a final decision on closing the stores March 20th.
Fillmore District Council Member David Franczyk says Buffalo will fight to keep the Broadway store opened. The City will submit an incentive package offered to K-Mart for review by the Bankruptcy judge.
There is no word yet on how many local jobs will be lost in the store closings.
