Governor Andrew Cuomo has announced a budget amendment that will advance the creation of the New York Genomic Medicine Network. The network centers on a collaboration between the New York Genomic Center and the University at Buffalo. Cuomo's amendment will provide a nearly $56 million commitment from the state to the Genomic Center along with $50 million from the Buffalo Billion to be awarded to UB.  University Chancellor Nancy Zimpher said, " Through the support of Governor Cuomo, UB will build on its stature as a major national research university and one of the keys to economic development in Western New York by being at the forefront of cutting edge medical research."

Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz echoed that sentiment: "The New York Genomic Medicine Network is an important initiative for our region and one that will not only lead to growth in our economy but will also spur cutting edge medical technologies that will put Erie County on the map."

The partnership is expected to create high paying jobs through expanded research capabilities at UB.
