Union approves shutdown contract with Cheektowaga's Ingersoll Rand

International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers

Workers at the Ingersoll Rand plant scheduled to close in Cheektowaga have ratified a separation contract with the manufacturer.

Members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local 330, District 65, have "voted overwhelmingly to ratify an effects agreement." That agreement covers how the nearly 160 workers will be compensated during and after the shutdown.

The union says the agreement includes a 65-cent-per-hour increase in pay, a 10 percent training bonus for all hours spent training, as well as earning up to 40 hours pay per year of service with no cap on years.

The union says members will also keep their health insurance for up to three months after the month in which they are separated from the company. The current collective bargaining agreement set to expire in August is also extended through Nov. 3.

The agreement comes in the wake of Ingersoll Rand's Jan. 22 announcement that it is ending manufacturing in Cheektowaga by July.
