Mom To Newspaper: I'm Not Dead Yet

STEVE INSKEEP, HOST:

Good morning. I'm Steve Inskeep. A Brookville, Pennsylvania man missed work but said he had an excuse. His mother died, he said. He could prove it since her obituary appeared in a newspaper called the Jeffersonian Democrat. Turns out the man himself had called the paper to report his mother's death. But then the paper began receiving calls from people saying the mother wasn't dead. The son, Scott Bennett, now faces disorderly conduct charges. His mom proved she was alive by visiting the newspaper. It's MORNING EDITION. Transcript provided by NPR, Copyright NPR.
