Buffalo, NY – Nearly half of Erie County residents could be at high-risk from contracting swine flu.
County Health Commissioner Dr. Anthony Billitier says that means as many as 460,000 people could be inoculated. That figure is significantly great than previous estimates.
Last month, Billitier estimated that 300,000 residents fell in the federal high-risk category for H1N1.
The scope of the mass vaccination is daunting, and made even more difficult by state regulations that prohibit anyone other than doctors and nurses to administer shots.
Two years ago, it took the county 5 days to innoculate 10-thousand people following a hepatitis scare.
