Buffalo, NY – Buffalo Mayor Byron says he would like have mayoral appointments on the city school board. Brown offered his views while being asked to weigh in on the controversy surrounding McKinley High School, its principal and the city schools superintendent.
Over the past few months Mayor Brown has not been willing to say much about the McKinley High School suspension or react to the work of the school board and Superintendent James Williams. But he continues to keep a close watch on the situation.
Brown says for some time he has been advocating to seek mayoral representation on the Buffalo Board of Education.
Brown says ideally he would like to be able to have the power to appoint three of the nine board seats. But having mayoral representation on the school board would require a change in State law. Brown says he has already talked to some state leaders about it.
Meanwhile, Brown says he would like a copy of the recently released report on the special investigation of the McKinley suspension so he can review it himself.
