Spoken Arts: Poet John Ashbery

By Sarah Campbell

Buffalo, NY – Born in Rochester in 1927, John Ashbery emerged as a major American poet of the 20th century. His 1975 breakthrough book, "Self-Portrait in a Convex Mirror," won three of America's most important literary prizes, and he has continued to write to international acclaim in subsequent decades. Ashbery will be in Buffalo for a reading later this month.

In this week's Spoken Arts, WBFO's Sarah Campbell talked with him -- and some of his readers -- about the many voices that find their way into his poems. Click the "listen" icon above to hear Spoken Arts now or use your podcasting software to download it to your computer or iPod.
