WBFO News: Lecture and Concert in Memory of Slain Journalist Daniel Pearl

By Joyce Kryszak

Buffalo, NY – Every day the media brings news of more deaths in Iraq. On many days that news includes the names of the media industry's own fallen heroes. Wall Street reporter Daniel Pearl was one of the first taken and killed by terrorists. But many wonder why journalists put their lives at risk.

Lee Coppola is Dean of Saint Bonaventure's School of Journalism and Mass Communicastion. He will attempt to answer that question at a lecture Thursday morning at 10:30 at the Jewish Community Center.

WBFO's Joyce Kryszak talked with Coppola. Click the "listen" icon above to hear their conversation now or use your podcasting software to download it to your computer or iPod.

As part of an annual celebration of his life, Daniel Pearl's family holds Music Days -- a series of worldwide concerts to encourage peace and understanding. In addition to Coppola's lecture, a local concert will be held Thursday night at the Jewish Community Center in Amherst. The program begins at 7:30pm and is open to the public.
