Gray wolves departing from the Buffalo Zoo

Chris Caya WBFO News

A change is on the way for the Buffalo Zoo's Arctic Edge Exhibit. Donna Fernandes, the Zoo's President and CEO, says the two gray wolves are being moved to another facility.

Fernandes says the two-year-old brother and sister have not adapted to their surroundings in Buffalo.

"We had assumed that we would be able to bring them in to do periodic maintenance, but because they refused to go in it's almost impossible for us to do routine maintenance," Fernandes said.

"We're hoping that in the new facility, which has outdoor holding and doesn't require so much maintenance, that they'll be able to settle in there better than they've been here."

According to Fernandes, the wolves' new home will be another accredited zoo which will announce their arrival after a 30-day quarantine period. They'll be replaced in a few months with two Arctic Fox which she calls "a more sociable species."
