New initiatives for the coming year were unveiled Friday by Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown during his 10th State of the City Address. Speaking inside the Buffalo-Niagara Convention Center, to about 1200 invited guests, Brown said, the State of the City is strong, and continues growing stronger every day.
"We have come a great distance these last few years in Buffalo. We are headed in the right direction. Now is the time to propel Buffalo even further."
Brown says the city will seek a developer for a major grocery store in the heart of downtown. AMC will open in the Market Arcade Cinema Complex. And $60 million in infrastructure improvements are planned to strengthen neighborhoods citywide. Afterwards, City of Buffalo Comptroller, Mark Schroeder said, a number of neighborhood business districts need help and assistance.
"And I hope the message...implements that. And if it does there will be hope for all Buffalonians."
Mayor Brown, also said, the city will also begin offering cash rewards for tips in homicides and other violent crimes. And a new ad campaign will be launched to increase recycling rates.
