The Erie County Democratic Committee has announced its candidate to face Rep. Chris Collins in the 27th District. Buffalo Police Officer and Orchard Park resident Jim O'Donnell will battle the Republican in the race. O'Donnell's candidacy was announced on Saturday to an enthusiastic crowd that included his wife and two young children. He claims that his hope in becoming a Congressman will be in breaking through the intransigence in Washington.

"My dream is the same dream that people across the district share for their children. The problem is that Congress lately has been doing a better job of getting in the way of that dream than helping it come true. As a Congressman, I would work every single day to make sure that those very simple dreams, those simple ideals, become a reality."

O'Donnell claims that government regulations will still allow him to work as a Police Officer during the campaign, but he is willing to do whatever is needed to make his effort succeed.

His speech was light on important issues, but he assures that his platform will be clearly defined in the near future.
