The Orchard Park Police Department is warning residents of a crew going door-to-door soliciting driveway paving work.
Police say they have recently received several complaints regarding the Troy, NY-based company that initially went by The Original John Williams Construction & Paving and later by the name Tri-State Paving.
According to the Better Business Bureau, Tri-State Paving has been issued a cease and desist letter from the State Attorney General's Office for its alleged fraud, including use of contracts that do not comply with state law, charging excessive amounts for work never agreed upon and bait-and-switch scams.
As The Original John Williams Paving Company, the paving business was warned not to use the BBB torch logo on marketing material, as the company was not BBB-certified.
Orchard Park Police also remind residents that anyone going door-to-door soliciting is required to obtain a permit from the Town Clerk subsequent to a background check. Anyone having an issue with this crew can contact the Orchard Park Detective Bureau at 662-6475 ext. 3.
