Niagara Falls, NY – A chemical fire broke out at Stollberg Incorporated on Witmer Road in the town of Niagara Friday night. There was a report of an explosion from the facility and several fire companies battled the blaze.
The Niagara County Sheriff's Department had urged residents were told to stay inside their homes and keep their windows closed around Hyde Park Boulevard and Witner Road and New Road and 47th Street in Niagara Falls until the smoke dissipated.
Authorities said smoke from the chemical fire could cause respiratory irritation. The industrial facility manufactures ceramic-based compounds for the steel industry such as Aluminum Oxide.
