Buffalo, NY – The Seneca Nation of Indians says a state law to enforce the collection of excise taxes on cigarettes sold at Indian-owned stores ignores their treaties. Governor David Paterson signed a bill Monday.

The new law does not call for the direct collection of sales taxes from Indian retailers. Instead it would tax the wholesalers who were allowed to sell tax free to Indian owned businesses.

WBFO'S Eileen Buckley has reaction to this new law. Click the audio player above to hear Eileen's story now or use your podcasting software to download it to your computer or iPod.
