Buffalo, NY – Local leaders say they are another step closer to transforming Buffalo's Outer Harbor into a waterfront parkway. Revised plans to create a $55 million parkway were unveiled Wednesday by Congressman Brian Higgins.
Design and landscape plans have been revised for Fuhrmann Boulevard. It is aimed to create more landscape along 3.3 mile Parkway. It would feature boardwalks and fishing piers at the Union Ship canal and Tift Street and create access to the Outer Harbor.
Congressman Higgins says Western New Yorkers have been waiting for this is the type of waterfront development for 50 years.
Route 5 would remain elevated, but Fuhrmann Boulevard would be transform into a two-way parkway. Construction work is underway. The project is expected to be completed by the fall of 2010. The State D-O-T is guiding the project.
