Buffalo, NY – A published report Friday says the grand jury investigating the Joan Diver slaying on a Newstead bike path last September has voted to indict Altemio Sanchez of Cheektowaga in the case.
The so-called bike path rapist has already has been charged with two earlier murders of women. Law enforcement sources familiar with the case tell the Buffalo News that the jury voted for the indictment only a day after Sanchez's wife Kathleen had testified under subpoena.
Sanchez faces homicide charges in the 1990 slaying of Linda Yalem, and the 1992 death of Majane Mazur. DNA evidence has also linked Sanchez to eight rapes, but the statute of limitations in those cases had already expired.
District Attorney Frank Clark declined comment when contacted by WBFO News.
