Cheektowaga, NY – 11-hundred local striking Goodyear-Dunlop workers from the Tonawanda tire facility will begin voting Thursday on a tentative contract agreement.
Director of the United Steel Workers District 4 in Cheektowaga, Bill Pienta, tells WBFO News local tire workers could be back on the job at the Tonawanda plant by next Tuesday, if the contract is ratified nationwide Thursday. That would end the 11 week-old strike.
Workers walked off the job in early October after failing to reach a new contract deal with Goodyear. The biggest battle was to keep healthcare benefits in place for retirees. But the union says this 3 year proposed contract promises to utilize special funds of more than one-billion dollar that will be set aside to pay for retiree health benefits
