Buffalo, NY – A $2 million donation from an anonymous donor will enable the Roswell Park Cancer Institute to create a new Clinical Trials Research Center.
Officials say the donor, who is from outside of Western New York, wants to increase participation in clinical trials both statewide and nationally. They say the new inpatient and outpatient facility will treat 50 patients a day who are participating in clinical trials for new cancer treatments.
Roswell Park President David Hohn says virtually every treatment today is a result of clinical trials.
"It is through clinical trials that scientists and clinicians gain an understanding of how well promising new treatments will work," Hohn said. "Roswell's new clinical research center will be the ideal place to conduct such trials."
The Clinical Trials Research Center will be located at Roswell Park at the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus. It is scheduled to be open in September 2007.
