Cost of Clean-Up Only the Beginning in Tabulating Storm's Economic Impact

By Mark Scott

Buffalo, NY – The economic impact of this month's early-season snow storm is massive. The $100 million-plus cost of cleaning up debris is only the beginning. Lost revenues for many businesses, lost wages for some employees and damage to homes and property will add to the overall price-tag associated with this storm.

There are some who are benefiting from the storm -- tree removal companies, electricians, home repair contractors -- to name a few. But the negatives consequences of the storm far outweigh the benefits, according to Dr. Larry Southwick, emeritus professor of finance and managerial economics at the University at Buffalo.

Dr. Southwick has studied the economic impact of natural disasters, and he joined WBFO's Mark Scott on the phone to talk about this one.
