Kenmore, NY – Many people are finding muscles they never knew they had as they deal with the aftermath of the storm. WBFO's Joyce Kryszak has more on what physical therapists are advising to help bodies bounce back.
Trekking around was hard enough for Kevin Degnan after recent knee surgery. So, trodding home from therapy last week in a near blizzard was no fun.
Fortunately, physical therapist Sylbie Hodas helps him work out some of the pain. Degnan isone of her regular patients. But Hodas said many of her regulars haven't been able to get in to see her because they are still dealing with the crisis. That - and the inevitable new injuries - worry her a bit.
She hopes her patients will return as soon as possible. And that there won't be too many new patients because of new injuries from the storm. But Dorothy Fogelman-Holland expects there will be.
She's the owner of Ken-Ton Physical Therapy. She said many of the injuries people experience are due to muscle tension caused by the crisis itself.
To help ward off some of those muscle injuries, Folgelman-Holland said people need to remember to breathe deeply and relax. She said that will help release some of the adrenaline that was needed originally to get through the very real physical crisis.
